12 Unbelievable Traffic Jams

A 60-mile-long traffic jam on a major Beijing highway has lasted more than nine days, with stranded drivers taking to playing chess on their cars as local vendors organize roadside shops like in a Cortázar short story. What's causing this potentially month-long jam? In short, increased traffic on the highway mixed with maintenance and construction. Britain's Sky News reported the snarls have been commonplace since May as a result of a spike in the number of trucks using the roads, with the daily peak reaching about 17,000. In this specific case, cars and trucks have been piling up since August 14, 2010 on the National Expressway 100, which is also known as the G110, the major route from Beijing to Zhangjiakou.

12 Unbelievable Traffic Jams

Moscow also has different reasons for traffic jams. One of them is frosty severe winter. Transportation roads cannot work well because of black ice. The other problem is high quantity of life and, as aresult, possession of many vehicles. And apparently, some streets must be reconstructed and broadened.

World's Most Crowded Prison (Kresty Prison, St. Petersburg, Russia)

Most Crowded Places In The World

Russia's prisons have a reputation for being the most overcrowded on Earth, especially Kresty Prison in St. Petersburg. The official capacity is set at 3,000, but the actual population is always at least 10,000. Each prisoner is also said to only be allowed 4 square meters of space each and 15 minutes a week (a week!) to shower. In summer 2006 Vladimir Putin announced that the prison would be relocated to a new facility in the Kolpinsky District on the outskirts of Saint Petersburg. After the relocation is complete the Kresty building will be sold at auction. It is anticipated that the prison building will be transferred into a hotel-entertainment complex.

With 2.5 million people a day, there's no doubt Tokyo's Shibuya is the busiest intersection in the world. No matter what time you go, the crossing is always busy. During the day, in the middle of night, at dusk – the amount of people is always consistent. It must be quite exciting when the green light goes on and you see the thousands moving in your direction.

Europe's Most Crowded Country (England)

The number of people living in England has overtaken the population density of Holland, which has traditionally been the most densely-populated major nation on the continent. The count, which has been attributed to higher levels of immigration, shows England has 395 people per square kilometre. China is still the most crowded country in the world.

They wanted to see if she could read a newspaper on the train, but it proved to be extremely difficult.

The Truth Revealed - Construction Of Egyption Pyramids

Construction Of Egyption Pyramids Like many young geeks, when I was a kid I wanted to be an archaeologist–and a paleontologist–when I grew up. Nothing sounded so exciting as discovering ancient cities, unearthing forgotten cultures, and also, if I had the time, naming a dinosaur after myself. Well, I eventually found other career paths, but I still love history and am always on the lookout for neat news in archaeology. This morning, I was not disappointed.

New archaeological research is changing the way we view our past. According to researchers in Egypt, it appears that the Pyramids might not have been built the way we thought. And no, I’m not talking about alien architecture here.

Since the 1990s, archaeologists have been working on an area near the great pyramids and now believe they have unearthed the tombs of the paid laborers behind one of the world’s most awe-inspiring constructions. For centuries, it’s been understood that slaves were behind the pyramids, but experts challenge that with these new discoveries, which date from the 4th Dynasty, or 2575 B.C. to 2467 B.C.

A few things that archaeologists have discovered include some surprising details. For instance, Zahi Hawass, the head of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities, believes that there were approximately 10,000 laborers working on the construction of the great pyramids. It also took 21 cattle and 23 sheep a day to feed them. Hawass explains: “These tombs were built beside the king’s pyramid, which indicates that these people were not by any means slaves. If they were slaves, they would not have been able to build their tombs beside their king’s.”

In addition, is appears that laborers only worked for three months out of the year, then being rotated out of the job. Hawass also believes that the individuals buried in the tombs are laborers who died during their term as builders.

Salima Ikram, professor of Egyptology at American University in Cairo, put the discovery in perspective: “It is important to find tombs that belong to lower class people that are not made out of stone that tell you about the social organization and the relative wealth of a range of people.”

Extraordinary Indian Man With 12 Fingers 14 Toes

Extraordinary Indian Man With 12 Fingers 14 Toes

Haramb Ashok Kumthekar Indian man is proud of the 12 fingers and 14 toes which have put him in the record books.

Rather than feel self conscious about the way he was born, Haramb Ashok Kumthekar has always celebrated his extra digits.

The 24-year-old business graduate was born with six fingers on each hand and seven toes on each foot.

This means he is the unofficial record holder for the most recorded number of fingers and toes on a living person.

However, he does not hold the Guinness world record which is held by fellow countryman Devendra Harne, who has 12 fingers and 13 toes on his feet.

Haramb does not hold the official record because, technically, some of his fingers are attached and are not classed as separate digits.

However, he is recognised by the Indian equivalent of the Guinness Book of Records, the Limca Book of Records.

Haramb's extra fingers and toes are caused by the medical condition polydactlyism, which comes from the Greek for "many fingers".

While each of Haramb's extra fingers and toes have separate bones, they don't all boast nerve endings and he is unable to move them or feel them all properly.

Extraordinary Indian Man With 12 Fingers 14 Toes

And while he is proud of his extra digits, Haramb admits that it can be frustrating at times, especially when it comes to finding shoes for his feet or gloves for his hands.

Chinese Man With World's Biggest Breast

Chinese Man With World's Biggest Breast

Chinese doctors claim to have discovered the biggest case of man Breast in the world after a dairy farmer turned up at a specialist chest clinic in Beijing.

Doctor Zhang Lilan at the Jinan Chest Hospital said: "The man is in every way male except for his enormous breasts.

"He is a farmer and says they are extremely uncomfortable as he has to do a lot of manual work and they get in the way of everything.

"He said it has also attracted a lot of attention in the village where he comes from with people turning up to point and laugh at him, so much so that he now has to wear a heavy coat to cover up his figure even in the hottest weather."

The man, Guo Feng, 53, said: "About 10 years ago my chest started to get larger but I didn't think much of it as I was putting on weight all over - but in the last few years it's become unbearable and I have been from one hospital to the other with nobody able to help me.

"I have spent all my money on examinations and tests and am still no nearer a solution - in fact my breasts are now bigger than ever.

"I sometimes think the doctors don't want to help me with this because they find me a medical curiosity."

He says if no one can help him he will cut them off himself and has appealed for doctors to do something before that.

But the doctors say they do not want to act until they have identified what the problem is.

Doctor Zhang Lilan added: "In 30 years of working as specialist here at the chest clinic I have never seen anything like it."

Clinic boss Gaoyong Hong added: "We wondered if he had eaten any poisons or contaminants but have found nothing after testing his blood. His genetic material is also normal. We did an Xray. It is not a cancer. It seems to be fatty tissue - at the most the best we can suggest is that it is the biggest case of man Breast ever."

Unbelievable Eight-Shaped Egg In China

Unbelievable Eight-Shaped Egg In China

A hen in China has produced a soft-shelled egg in the shape of a figure eight.
Mrs Dong, of Shijiazhuang, northern China's Hebei province, first suspected something unusual when she heard the hen making unusual noises one night.

"I had never heard anything like it before. When I approached she stopped making the noise but as soon as I left she started again," she said.

"The next morning, I was so surprised to find the weird-shaped egg in the hen's cage."

Mrs Dong said her neighbours had all been coming around to her home to see the egg for themselves.

She has decided not to sell or eat the egg but is keeping it, preserved in a box, because it is so unusual.

Professor Wu Yuefeng of Hebei University's Life Science department, said: "It's very rare to see such a weird-shaped egg.

"This will be the result of a lack of calcium in the hen's diet which has prevented it from creating a hard shell."

10 Weirdest Festivals Around The World

Kanamara Matsuri

10 Weirdest Festivals

Every year in spring, the festival of Kanamara Matsuri (The Steel Phallus) is held in Kawasaki, Japan. It is a Shinto fertility festival and, as you would expect, it involves a rather large penis statue. During the festival, people can buy candies, vegetables, and gifts in the shape of a phallus. The festival was very popular amongst prostitutes who thought that participation would help to prevent them getting sexually transmitted diseases.

El Colacho

10 Weirdest Festivals

Dating from 1620, El Colacho (or baby jumping) is a festival in Spain held every year on the feast of Corpus Christi. The festival involves the laying on mattresses all babies born in the previous twelve months. The adult men of the village of Castrillo de Murcia then dress up as devils and take turns jumping over the babies. The festival often results in injuries (usually of the adults) and it is believed that the jumping rids the babies of original sin – a bizarre kind of baptism. Pope Benedict XVI has recently asked the local priests to distance themselves from the festival as it is dangerous and contrary to the Catholic religion.

Cheese Rolling Festival

10 Weirdest Festivals

The Cheese Rolling Festival is held every May in Cooper’s Hill, Gloucestershire in the United Kingdom. The festival involves an official tossing a cheese down the extremely steep hill, after which hundreds of people begin to run down the hill (risking life and limb) in order to catch the cheese. Each year the event results in casualties and for this reason children are not allowed to participate, though oftentimes boys from the local town will join in anyway. For the children, there is an uphill race. Women and men race separately in the main event.

Goose Clubbing Festival

10 Weirdest Festivals

Until recently, an annual festival was held in Germany in which a goose was tied by its feet to a post and then clubbed by the local men until its head came off. As a result of complaints from animal rights activists, the festival-goers now hit a goose which has previously been killed. A very similar event occurs in Spain (surprise surprise) every year in which a man hangs from the goose until the head comes off. Again the goose is killed prior to the event which dates back 350 years. The Spanish festival is called Antzar Eguna.

Bonfires of Saint John

10 Weirdest Festivals

The Bonfires of Saint John is a popular festival in Spain held on the 19th to the 24th of June. The strange festival involves the lighting of bonfires (frequently fueled by old furniture). The locals share hot chocolate whilst watching the bonfires. But then it gets weird. The children of the villages then take turns in running through the fires. The entire week is filled with festivities including fireworks displays and eighty-six women and eighty-six young girls are elected the “Beauties” of the bonfires. These “beauties” preside over the festival as Queens.

Goat Tossing Festival

10 Weirdest Festivals

The Spanish certainly like their odd festivals. Every year on the fourth Sunday in January, the locals of a small town named Manganeses de la Polvorosa gather together for the goat tossing festival, in honor of St Vincent de Paul, their patron saint. The festival has been around for so long that no one knows when it started. It involves a young man who finds a goat in the village, ties it up, and takes it to the top of the local Church belfry. He then tosses the goat over the side and it falls 50 feet where it is (hopefully) caught by villagers holding up a sheet of tarpaulin. The village officials banned the event but it continues regardless. Various animal rights agencies have complained about it – though their complaints have also been ignored.

Hadaka Matsuri

10 Weirdest Festivals

Hadaka Matsuri is a Japanese festival in which the participants are all but naked. The festival is celebrated many times throughout the year in various parts of Japan and those involved usually wear a type of traditional loin cloth. Some of those involved go completely naked which is not frowned on at all – in fact it is considered healthy. The festivals often involve the use of mud (for entertainment) and there are often separate women’s and men’s festivals. In some towns special festivals are held for children – as a rite of passage, but sometimes children participate in the adult festival. The festival has its origins as a religious event, but these days the religious aspects are virtually forgotten.

La Tomatina

10 Weirdest Festivals

On the last Wednesday of August every year in the town of Buñol in the Valencia region of Spain, 9,000 locals and 20,000 – 40,000 foreigners descend on the town to throw tomatoes at each other in honor of the Virgin Mary and St. Louis Bertrand. This tradition has been around since the 1940s, though it was briefly suppressed under the reign of Franco. The festival starts with a person attempting to scale a greased pole to capture a cooked ham. Once the ham is taken down from the pole, water canons are fired at the participants and over 100 tons of tomatoes are dumped into the streets for throwing. Women are expected to wear white and men to wear no shirts. Anyone caught wearing a shirt inevitably has it ripped off – including women and especially tourists who tend to be the main target of locals.

Fiesta de Santa Marta de Ribarteme

10 Weirdest Festivals

Every year in Las Nieves, Spain, people who have suffered a near death experience in the previous year get together to attend Mass in celebration of Saint Marta de Ribarteme, the Patron Saint of resurrection. But here is the twist: they turn up at Mass carrying a coffin, or being carried in a coffin. After Mass, the coffins all proceed to the top of a nearby hill with a statue of the saint. Despite the somberness of the event, people light fireworks and shopkeepers fill the streets to sell religious objects.

Thaipusam

10 Weirdest Festivals

Thaipusam is a Hindu festival (celebrated mostly by Tamils) held in January/February each year to celebrate the birth of Murugan (the son of gods Shiva and Parvati). The participants shave their heads and perform a pilgrimage, at the end of which they shove very sharp skewers through their tongues or cheeks. Some of the practitioners put hooks into their back and pull heavy objects like tractors. The aim is to cause as much pain as possible – the more you endure, the more “blessings” you receive from the gods. The festival is popular in India, but the largest celebrations take place in Singapore and Malaysia, where it is a public holiday.

8 Most Bizarre Tattoo Art

To Do List Tattoo

As someone who has a wrist tattoo having something that you are going to see almost constantly every day it really has to be something important and personal. But just maybe this tattoo will keep it’s novelty and be cool to the person who has it. At least I really hope so.

Digit Tattoo

This tattoo is perhaps the most disturbing that I have ever seen and I’m not even sure why. I mean to make your arm look like a giant finger is undoubtedly creative, and if we’re being honest people are probably going to stare anyway, so why not give them something to really look at. But still I find this tattoo as creepy as it is creative.

six pack

I suppose if you know that you’re never going to get in shape then this might be a good idea seeing as it will be the closest thing you will ever get to a six pack. Though I think it also gives new meaning to the phrase “beer gut.” Sometimes you got to think about the reason people get tattoos because like other tattoos this is only funny the first time you see it.

I See You Tattoo

This is another unique tattoo that really I cannot understand why someone would get it. Sure I mean you do it once and it is kinda funny and it will definitely catch you off guard. But after that it gets old rather quick, so I think that the goal of this tattoo is to constantly keep meeting new people. Once again I think I can respect it but I think in the long run this could be a rather silly tattoo.

Cow Tattoo

Now there are a number of tattoos that utilize holes in the body in order to add another dimension to their tattoo. Many of the more disturbing and unique ones, use holes that well I was not comfortable sharing pictures of. Turning the belly button into an anus has become a… shall I say “popular” bizarre tattoo as I have seen it done with a few different animals. This is possibly the best of the worst but many of them I have seen with cats.

Alien Tattoo

This is a truly impressive tattoo and this would really make anyone double take when you walked by. This is a bizarre but really cool tattoo and unlike some of the others on this list I really don’t think there is too much to complain about. I would really like to hear the story behind this tattoo though and I would also like to see people’s first reactions when they see him walking by.

Breakfast Tattoo

Now you have to really love your eggs over easy with bacon and hashbrowns in order to get this tattoo. Bald heads are great places to get unique tattoos and I have seen plenty cool and unique ones. I will grant that this one is unique, but I really think that it is unique for a reason… Honestly I can’t understand the justification for a tattoo like this and I would really like to hear it.

zombie tattoo

This is a tattoo that I can respect because it takes a great deal of dedication (and apparently more than 24 hours and thousands of dollars) to turn yourself into a zombie. Now I personally do have a passion for something great enough to tattoo my entire body with it, so I think it is impressive that this guy does. But then again he might be a poster child for being overly obsessive about something…either way this is one really bizarre tattoo.

Amazing Optical Illusion Of A Tiger

Remember the Best Optical Illusion Ever article, posted two months ago? Well, those of you who’ve seen it will have no trouble understanding this one. Rest of you, quickly jump to the prequel post before continuing with this one. Ok, now when you know where this is going, there’s still one additional Easter Egg left.

Optical Illusion Of A Tiger

Optical Illusion Of A Tiger

There is a gallery included below, which reveals how this optical illusion came to existence. In my humble opinion, Craig Tracy really deserves being included in some sort of Art Hall of Fame. Did I remind you that what you are seeing is a real life photo? Now for that Easter Egg – count how many individuals were included this time.
